Verkéiersverbond Luxembourg receives “Best Practice Award Urban Telematics” in Berlin

Berlin/Luxembourg/Freiburg – May 2015 – The Verkéiersverbond Luxembourg has received a best practice award for its mobile ticketing solution for the second time in 2015.

The mTicket app enables paperless and tamper-proof ticketing via smartphone. The Luxembourg solution was selected as a best practice example for a region in which large numbers of people commute daily across a national border. A meaningful shift from individual transportation to local, regional and long-distance public transportation can only be achieved with simple-to-use ticketing for occasional users. Via a second app, passengers receive comprehensive information about mobility service availability and access to mobility is made significantly easier by the mTicket app.

Thomas Hornig, Managing Partner of highQ GmbH, is delighted with the new award: “Winning the Best Practice Award Urban Telematics 2015 shows once again that we have developed a truly innovative solution for cross-border traffic. What’s really special is that this solution is already in use. It has proved its worth.” Director General of the Verkéiersverbond Luxembourg, Gilles Dostert, added: “We want to offer in Luxembourg a well thought out public solution as an alternative to motorized transport. To this end, smooth cooperation between different service providers is essential. We achieved this through our offer and also by unifying tariffs. With the mTicket app, we aim to convince even more people about the simplicity of using public transport.”

The Best Practice Award Urban Telematics prize-giving took place in the context of the “Best Practice Urban Telematics” conference at the Metropolitan Solutions expo in Berlin. The award was presented by Berlin's Governing Mayor, Michael Müller. Metropolitan Solutions is one of the largest international congress fairs on the subject of “Smart and Green Cities” and deals with the challenges of increasing urbanization. It was only in February this year that the Verkéiersverbond was honored for its smartphone ticketing system with the Best m-Government Service Award in Dubai. With this award, the UAE honors innovative mobile solutions for efficient and constantly available public services. Developed in cooperation with Karlsruhe software company INIT AG, the mTicket app is a variant of highQ’s multi-modal mobility assistant application mytraQ.
